01.09 Foiled Moto + Baseball Cap + Leopard Booties

While rifling through the local Goodwill this past weekend, looking for something cheap to pass as a Halloween costume, I was told that hats suit me. This isn't the first time someone has said that, though it is the first time someone has said that to me while wearing a rather pimpish looking pirate hat. Either way, hats still intimidate me even though they're literally the laziest way to make an outfit look special. I feel like I need to train myself to just wear them and get over my anxiety. Like when I was living in California and something just clicked and from then on out I was all 'I'm going to wear my heels whenever I damn well please instead of just hoarding them in my closet!'

I consider my baseball cap a gateway to this chapeau-breakthrough because it's the first hat (aside from winter hats) that I have no problem wearing. I'm hoping to broaden my horizons though, especially as the weather gets brisk and a nice hat might serve more than just an aesthetic purpose.

Am I insane? Or do you have that one thing (bright lipstick? heels? crazy prints?) that you love, but don't know how to wear gracefully?

  1. Oh man, I am the SAME way about hats! They terrify me! I feel like they make me look like I am trying too hard - but the ridiculous thing is that I never think that about anyone else wearing a hat! It's silly. Anyway, this hat totally 100% suits you. You look awesome!

    1. I'm absolutely the same way! It's really something I need to get over because I LOVE hats and I should really care less what other people think! ;)

  5. Such a cool outfit! Love the colours, the wine and the leopard print. + the charcoal jeans! So good!
I kind of had a thing about maxi skirts and dresses. I thought only super tall girls could wear them - I'm 5'7 and I thought they'd make me look short and make my hips wide. So I didn't wear them. Then I tried some maxi dresses on and turns out they don't make me look short at all! {Some of them still widen my hips, but I blame it on the cut}. Anyway, I think I broke the curse because I love wearing them now. :)
Hats-wise, I really wanted a fedora hat this autumn, and I tried about 10 of them on - because hats suit me...at least I thought they did, because fedoras are clearly not my style - I look like a weird old lady pretending to wear a flower on her head. So yeah, that's fedoras and me.

    1. I had similar feelings toward maxi dresses a couple years ago (though I'm really short, 5'3!). But I completely agree, once you find the right cut almost anyone can pull them off. Actually... I'm pretty sure that goes for almost any style! So maybe I just need to find the right hats... :)

    1. Thanks, Elissa! It's a little more subtle than how it comes across in pictures, but I love that it adds such a unique texture to any casual outfit!
