Gatsby Style

Between Midnight In Paris, The Artist, Boardwalk Empire and the upcoming Great Gatsby film, we are culturally rekindling our love for the glitz, glamour and grittiness of the 1920s. I think what fascinates us about this era is the stark contrast of the opulence of the time and the seedy underworld/ultimate collapse of that indulgent lifestyle.  A true life cautionary tale that perhaps reflects recent economical events.

Nevertheless, we can’t deny that the fashions of the era are working their way into our peripherals.  I, for one, am excited about the antique details we’re seeing a lot of in both accessories and clothing.  I am a little apprehensive of the wearability of the ultimate 1920s silhouette: the dropwaist dress.  However, I can’t deny that there’s something freeing about the look; casual in its tailoring, yet usually containing such beautiful details.
