ladies is pimps too

Oh my goodness, I know the title is ridiculous, but come on... how could I not?  Sometimes you go about getting dressed and then once you're out you realize, Yep, I'm dressed like a pimp.  Just me?  Whatever, it's Hollywood (baby) at least I'm wearing clothes, that's what I always tell myself.

Actually, this ridiculous title correlates with one of my more important life lessons (don't worry Ma, I've never been an amateur pimp).  Particularly all y'all who find yourselves writing term papers, watch your step because I'm about to drop some knowledge (100 cool points if you knew that was a Barney* reference).  So here it is: Paper Writing 101 with Melina.

Titles.  Clearly they should never be overlooked.  Many of you are bloggers and know that what you title a post should be relevant and help identify aspects of said post.  Musical lyrics are often discouraged (advice I clearly avoid like the plague).  However, in academia I strongly suggest using ultra-familiar and semi-relevant song lyrics at the beginning of your title followed by a colon (:) and then an educated-sounding summation of the paper's contents.  Trust me, choose the right song for the right professor and you instantly have them distracted whilst reading your work because instead they are now singing the song over and over in their head.  BAM, they've now connected with your paper and are in a more favorable grading mood.

Of course you still have to write the paper well and you have to really gauge your professor and their sense of humor (also take into consideration I went to a pretty artsy-fartsy college).  Yet I've seen it employed on many occasions and at the very least it makes you look witty and professors generally adore a good colon in the title.  The best example I ever saw?  My good friend titled one of her papers 'Ladies is Pimps Too: Women in the Workplace Throughout Television History'.  What.  Up.

fur stole: H&M, wool blazer: vintage, fedora: boyfriend's, faux leather pants & purple shirt: Forever 21, yellow heels: Payless
